Heidi challenged the Inklings to try a composing method that sometimes works magic for her: “Close your eyes and type a poem. Keep going until you’re done. There will always be little typos to deal with afterwards, but something about not watching what’s coming out (and immediately proofing/editing/revising/critiquing/arranging it) is extremely freeing. It’s not really automatic writing at all, but sort of paranormal anyway!”

My automatic writing/blind draft came out as a stream-of-consciousness paragraph (I’ll spare you) that I pared and whittled into my poem. I usually draft in pencil in my notebook, so besides having my eyes closed, it was quite different to try to find poetry through my fingertips on the keyboard.

Here’s what the other Inklings came up with:

Catherine @Reading to the Core
Heidi @my juicy little universe
Linda @A Word Edgewise
Margaret @Reflections on the Teche
Molly @Nix the Comfort Zone

Joyce has this week’s Poetry Friday Roundup at Joyce Uglow Author. I imagine it will be quite the celebration of the Blue Tsunami! I worked the polls as a roster judge, and we were busy all. day. long. It was glorious. So many first-time voters! (I wish I’d kept a tally! We cheered them all!) I had a voter who is originally from Algeria and had never voted IN HIS LIFE! Exciting times. Let’s keep the momentum going!
