The image doesn’t really have much to do with my cherita, except for the unreadable but definitely not antagonistic silent stare that passed from those four-leggeds to this two-legged in the early morning light earlier this week.
March. It does what its name says. Here we are, all of a sudden, a week away from National Poetry Month Eve, from Progressive Poem Eve, from the Poetry Friday roundup right here. Have I nailed down my NPM project? No. Have I written the first line of the Progressive Poem? Maybe. Is the roundup post ready? Let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves.
Let’s take a deep breath and see what everyone else has to offer this week. Rose has the first Poetry Friday Roundup of spring at Imagine the Possibilities. Next week will take care of itself, all in good time.
That is my policy too. Next week…Thanks for this little cherita about your deer encounter. They mesmerize me.

Mary Lee, I once encountered two deer in the woods when I was alone on the nature trail by my daughters’ home. I had to admit that I was scared to find the animals in broad daylight. When telling my tale, my daughter said but the deer don’t bother with humans. I was not so sure about that. Thanks for your cherita and reminding me to get ready for NPM.

Yes…yes, it will. Next week will take care of itself and I predict serendipity. You make much of even this small moment of crossed paths!

I’m all set for Poetry Month, but life and even just the rest of this year feels very un-nailed down! Thanks for sharing, Mary Lee. Hard to believe it’s almost April!

Can’t believe how fast March flew by. I’m imagining deer hooves clattering on the pavement. I don’t think I’ve ever heard that sound despite all the deer I’ve seen in my time.

Eight deer! That would be a little unsettling. I wrote a few cheritas a couple of weeks ago – harder than I thought. You make it look easy.

Mary Lee, I first thought your poem was going to be about Santa’s reindeer. I love that you saw them on the street. Surprising and fun cherita.

You said it! April is planting season, earth month, poetry month… this week before it begins I always feel like I’m holding my breath. Hope the chaos is lovely for you this year!

I’ve looked just like that deer–too many times this week! Ha. Poetry Month project? I think I have one and then…it seems silly and I keep thinking. I just need to pick one.

The deer… yes… at least yours looked you in the eye. My back yard just holds evidence of their visits. March will happen. All in good time, just as you say. Thanks for your clattering cherita.

We have lots of deer visitors in our yard, but the other day, on my way to my sit spot, I saw a deer hoof print in the mud. So they’re around, just haven’t seen them yet.

Oh deer, I’m fawn of your cherita, Mary Lee. (I’m sorry, I couldn’t resist. 😉 )

This morning I thought the “dog-sitter” next door had a new dog, but it was young deer *inside* the deer fence trying to get back out! Whoops! (And now that you’re thinking about your poetry projects, the answers will come – it always does.)

Love the juxtaposing of clattering hooves and marching March… of glimpse and of anticipation for next month 🙂

All in good time, indeed. I love the way you captured the fleeting moment of connection with deer that we’ve all had/felt.

Deer and pavement just don’t feel like they belong together. Yet, you worked some poetic magic, and they do! Also, I don’t know how the dreaded long month of March is almost over already. I’m not quite ready for all that April is bringing my way.

I just love this form – I am kind of glad to see you wrestle with it for NPM, because I can see MORE of it — It seems like it might be another of those “deceptively simple” forms, and I’d love to see what you do with it!
