So beautifully crafted, Mary Lee! Love it! What a perfect metaphor for writing/revising.

great word choices. It feels good in my mouth to read aloud.

Mary Lee, I love your poem that has two meanings. It is wonderful to see a Winslow Homer painting. My colleage and I wrote a lesson plan using Winslow’s paintings from Long Island as prompts for students’ writing program. Homer has amazing work. I would be thrilled to have the painting and your poem showcased in my Autumn’s Ephemeral Gold Gallery of Artistic Expressions (at the padlet I created).

Nice twist to “harvest,” Mary Lee, with great sounds. “Sheaves” and “shelves,” for instance. And I like the visual of sending the chaff flying. Very satisfying 🙂

The photo you chose is perfect for this poem, threshing out words together.

The analogous connections you make concerning the traditional harvesting of wheat and the harvesting of notebook words is sharply and accurately sketched in your poem, Mary Lee. A triumph.

How wonderful! I wish I could have been at Jone’s Pop up. I love them. “Crisp on the edges/juicy in the center” is just PERFECT. The thought of sheaves of words makes me happy…makes autumn more special. Well done.

That last stanza made me swoon, Mary Lee.
And I love a Winslow Homer — this one is fall through and through.

Wow! Believe it or not, Kurt and I just went to a Winslow Homer exhibit just last night! I learned a lot about his art, and especially his lithographs and etchings. I was so excited to see that you chose his painting to accompany your poem. Your last stanza is fabulous, and I’m especially partial to the idea of harvested “sheaves of words”.

Mary Lee, Your poem is inspired. I’m glad you were able to go to Jone’s pop up. It is fun to put faces to names, as I found out the first time I attended. I love her prompt and will now have to try to write more activiely, not that we are in Dublin on our way home from Belgium and the Netherlands.

Ahh, I love the added opening, Mary Lee… images ripening…crisp on the outside, juicy on the inside…inviting us to be about our poeming. 🙂

I missed commenting last week. I am adding this poem to my writing journal. I love the concept of poetry being a harvested.
