Today’s poem is pure play! I’m reading Ada Limón’s new collection, STARTLEMENT: NEW AND SELECTED POEMS, and I was taken by the first line of the poem “Prologue: This Big Fake World.” I used it as my first line and went from there. When the lines started to rhyme, I leaned into it and had fun.
Talk about leaning in and having fun…how about those New England asters and the black-eyed Susans in the corner of my garden?!? Eye-poppingly fun!

Love all the “oo” sounds in your poem, Mary Lee!

Oh, this is such fun! What a great line to write from and I’m so glad you leaned in and went for the ride. I love “mostly bones and attitude” and Oh! the visual and auditory glory of “a yard festooned with blooms”. Those gorgeous asters and black-eyed Susans are a celebration in and of themselves! Thanks for putting a smile on my face this morning.

Mary Lee, your poem sings with clever rhymes in the poetry playgarden. If and then brings the joy of writing while leaning in. The word choice, “festooned with bloom” brings a enchanting look to the poem. Enjoy the fun of creating poems

This poem is now distinctly bittersweet, knowing that Line 2 must now be revised, but how lovely a celebration of homeliness! Huzzah for asters and BESs!

Ta da! I’m having a time with Word Press. I know it’s me not having patience for how Word Press wants me to do things…but argh! I tried commenting yesterday and just couldn’t get to work. But, today I was able to login. Sooooooo. I think this is a fun poem. And, we all need a fun poem right now. I mean, “the loo” ha! A superb choice of words and subject.
