Today’s poem is pure play! I’m reading Ada Limón’s new collection, STARTLEMENT: NEW AND SELECTED POEMS, and I was taken by the first line of the poem “Prologue: This Big Fake World.” I used it as my first line and went from there. When the lines started to rhyme, I leaned into it and had fun.
Talk about leaning in and having fun…how about those New England asters and the black-eyed Susans in the corner of my garden?!? Eye-poppingly fun!

Oh, this is such fun! What a great line to write from and I’m so glad you leaned in and went for the ride. I love “mostly bones and attitude” and Oh! the visual and auditory glory of “a yard festooned with blooms”. Those gorgeous asters and black-eyed Susans are a celebration in and of themselves! Thanks for putting a smile on my face this morning.

Mary Lee, love how you were inspired by a line from Ada and created something so spectacular! Love the picture you painted in the first stanza and the gorgeous feeling of contentment I felt reading the second stanza! Brava!
