Since we are not your typical “Go Bucks!” people, we will be enjoying a quiet city tomorrow evening while everyone else is glued to their TV sets for OSU vs. TX.

“When your apathy’s not a shortfall” I love how the lines repeat and change and rotate around this idea of quiet streets while everyone is watching the game.

This poem makes me appreciate putting words I consider sad or lonely up against being happy. I love that! It’s fun and and oh, so true. I’m not a football girl at all.

Mary Lee, I can relate to your poem – we don’t watch much football, nor are we anything close to Green Bay Fans, even though we’ve lived in Wisconsin for 25 years. We do try to get to the stores when football is on – it is definitely quieter. Thanks for putting into words what many of us feel. Enjoy the fall!

I LOVE this, Mary Lee. I live in a football crazed state/town and I can’t stand it. My apathy is not a shortfall! 🙂 I relish having my own quiet time when others are somewhere cheering over something I can’t muster any interest in. 😀

Mary Lee, your poem rings a bell. My neighbor is obsessed about the Eagles. There are flags outside the house and a true love for the Eagles. Both husband and wife live and breath all of Pennsylvania’s sports. My husband was a true sports lover who was an avid watcher. I prefered the quiet time mixed with some time watching a bit of sports with him. I hope your Saturday was full of quiet joy.

Ha! Love your take, Mary Lee. We’ve always lived in the Southeast, where football is practiced like a religion. Though Jeff and I rarely know who is playing whom, etc., and don’t generally make a practice of watching games…. and I worry about all those concussions!
