The Inklings were all together last weekend for the first time ever. What a joyous time we had! Joyous, and tinged with the sadness that it had to end…and that Heidi will soon be across the pond for 9 months.
Catherine led us in an activity that I put to good use for this poem. It is a 7-7-7-7 poem: 7th book on my shelf (Amanda Gorman’s CALL US WHAT WE CARRY), turned to the 7th page, using the 7th line to begin a 7-line poem.
The Universe was generous with those 7s. Our Inkling challenge this month (from Molly) was
Write a poem about maps or travel or journeys, real or imagined. Maybe you want to write about finding your way or marking your path. Maybe you want to consider where your map begins, where it ends, or the liminal boundary spaces.
That 7th line from Amanda Gorman was all I needed to get the pencil moving. Combine her words with the embroidery (photo at the top of the post) which hangs before me on my office wall under the map of Colorado and flanked by photos of my grandparents, and…magic.
By the time this post goes live, I’ll be in San Diego to spend a week with the Niblings before they start fifth grade, so I can’t make any promises about getting around to comments. Sorry! Two slacker weeks in a row…but another JOURNEY!
Go see what the other Inklings came up with:
Catherine @Reading to the Core
Heidi @my juicy little universe
Linda @A Word Edgewise
Margaret @Reflections on the Teche
Molly @Nix the Comfort Zone
Ruth has this week’s Poetry Friday roundup at There is no such thing as a God-forsaken town.
I’m still waving and hoping we can be together again. What a wonderful gift to be together. I love the 7, 7, 7 form and how well it worked for your poem. Thanks for sharing this journey of life with me.

It does sound as if this poem came together as if by magic! Your embroidery is stunning, and the flowers remind me of our walk on the farm. And I love the image of the waving arms. Have fun in San Diego!

Oh! I do love that line and how it was a starting point for your poem’s journey. Your ending stanza is a pretty powerful mantra for living a good life. As always, your embroidery is just beautiful and it makes me smile to imagine it hanging on your office wall, a memento to spark thoughts of our time together and other journeys as well. Enjoy your newest adventure!

The 7777 prompt captured my attention, and I went right out to write one myself. So fun! You did pick a perfectly lined up book and inspiration for your map poem and journeying. Enjoy the trip to San Diego and don’t worry about visiting blogs this week! Have fun.

PHEW — at first I thought you’d found time between Monday (arm out the car window) and Friday to embroider that lovely journey! A very serendipitous and sweet set of sevens to capture the Being Here and being here for the journey. THANK YOU.
