Mary Lee, the power of starting small is evident in many hearts. “What will it take to mend the broken lives” is a quote to remember throughout the ages until the world understands its true meaning. There is power in your poem!
Mary Lee, amen and amen. How beautiful. “Let’s Start Small” is a perfect title, for the problem is so overwhelming, there is nowhere else to start. A rent in…humanity. : ( Thank you for writing this.
Mary Lee, leave it to your potent artistry in fabric & words to move us to action. Small brave steps are always happening & we likely don’t know it. Today I’m reading in the Sun NYT of Nov. 9 ] about two women in Atlanta, on different sides of the MiddleEast issues, “For 2 Liberals, Painful debate on the Mideast.” They knew each other through a school one founded & agreed to meet to talk about the feelings & beliefs about the situation. They didn’t change their vastly opposed positions, but they hugged at the end. A small brave step.
What keeps me hopeful in this crisis & with all the rents, with all the political & refugee roils, all over our precious World, is that I know every minute there are great good unsung calm peace bringers, on all fronts of conflicts, turmoils, emergencies of political/war nature, working. Thank you so much for being moved to create this one [& all your fabric Arts] & to share.
I agree with your Cousin, about a wider audience for these pieces.
Oh so powerful, Mary Lee. What will it take, indeed. Thank you for sharing this.

Cousin, what a beautiful poem and illustrative piece of fiber art. I hope you’re collecting these for a book or sharing them more broadly elsewhere.

Profound and a wonderful example of using metaphor throughout a poem.

Now that’s a doozy of a title for a punch of a poem. You pack so much into all of your artistic mediums, Mary Lee!

Love. We are filled with questions as much as grief, but starting small is always wise.
