Poetry Friday: August

It’s highly ironic that this is the poem I’m sharing today…a cloudy, cool, drizzly-morning day with the windows open all day long. Suffice it to say, this poem is a highly accurate representation of the August we were experiencing when I wrote it!

I’m taking a blog break until September 26 when I’m planning to be back for the Poetry Sisters challenge. Happy September! See you on the other side!

Carol has this week’s Poetry Friday roundup at Beyond LiteracyLink.

  1. Mary Lee, I too have seen the difference in August’s weather. Extreme heat moves into damp weather. Today is was “cold”. (90 degrees to less than 70). Your poem is accurate for sure but what resonates with me is the word choice and that image is perfect. May I share your poem and image a “Summering” Gallery? Enjoy your blog break!

    1. NO ONE has written August better than Natalie Babbitt! But just like poems about the moon, we can’t let that stop us from trying!!

  2. Afternoon heat is an ambition muffler, for sure! I’ll be looking forward to catching up with you in September. Have fun!

  3. My energy has definitely been zapped by August heat. How did I ever teach during this oppressive month? I’m feeling gratitude that there are no hurricanes on the horizon.

  4. I recall what they called the dog’s days of August while living in New York. All that asphalt and concrete didn’t help. Some great descriptors in your poem help to evoke memories, Mary Lee. Look forward to your return as September ends.

  5. Mary Lee, I think August is a month of changes as your poem & weather demonstrate. This morning I woke up and it seems like fall. The light was different and it was cooler. Have a nice break! See you in September.
